a bit excessive? i found out yesterday that a friend i work w/was arrested outside our building friday as he arrived at work. he was double cuffed(he's very well built & couldn't get his hands close enough behind his back) & stuffed in the cruiser. what did he do? robbery? assault? drugs? nope. he had expired plates from may & when the officer ran his plates he found a warrant for an unpaid ticket in one of our burbs. my friend had the paper w/him that proved he had paid the ticket & fixed everything, so the warrant was obviously no longer valid. still, the officer arrested him in front of everyone at work. to make matter worse, the city that arrested him was not the city that issued the warrant. he was driven to an intersection, taken out of the cruiser, uncuffed, given to a cop from the other burb, cuffed again & put in another cruiser. so, not only was he humiliated in front of his co-workers for a bogus reason, he was embarassed again at a public intersection. is this the normal type of treatment that people get from the cops on traffic violations? it just seemed a bit harsh. maybe the cop could have escorted him to the other burb's PD instead of doing it in front of his place of employment. now, everyone saw him arrested & doesn't know it was for such a bogus charge. knowing human nature, they are going to assume the worst.
